MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa (VbV) Announcement
01 Dec 08
FBME Card Services Ltd (FBMECS) is pleased to announce that MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa (VbV) are now available to all customers who have FBMECS Cards.
For all customers who wish to use their FBMECS Cards for online purchasing the registration to this free service is mandatory.
What is MasterCard SecureCode and VbV?
MasterCard SecureCode and VbV are simple and secure ways to pay at thousands of online stores. They are special programs designed to protect you from unauthorized use of your Card at participating online merchants.
A secret “password” known only to you enhances your existing Card account by protecting you against unauthorized use of your card when shopping online at participating online retailers.
Every time you pay online at participating retailers, you will be automatically prompted to enter your own secret “password” - just like entering a PIN at the ATM. In seconds, you gain added protection while shopping online.
How does MasterCard SecureCode and VbV work?
You can “activate” or register your card for this protection by:
1) clicking here or
2) clicking on a link to SecureCode or Verified by Visa the next time you are shopping at
a participating merchant, or
3) by going to the www.MasterCardSecureCode.com or www.VerifiedbyVisa.com
Instructions of how to proceed will be provided to you at that stage.
You will be prompted to enter information that you have on your card or that you know, and will be asked to establish your own secret credential and your “password”. Once you have activated your card each time you make a purchase with a participating online merchant you will be automatically prompted at checkout to provide your “password” as part of the checkout process. Your “password” will be verified by FBMECS and your checkout process will continue.
No one will be able to use your card for payment at a participating merchant unless they know your secret credential, your “password”. When you correctly enter your “password” during a purchase at a participating online merchant, you confirm that you are the authorized cardholder and your purchase is then completed. If an incorrect “password” is entered, the purchase will not be completed.
Even if someone knows your credit or debit card number, the purchase cannot be completed without your “password” at a participating merchant.
How do you activate your card for SecureCode and VbV?
You can click on the link on FBMECS websites www.go2cards.com or www.fbme.com, or you can activate your card during the checkout process at a participating merchant. Instructions of how to proceed will be provided to you at that stage.
You will be presented with a screen that will ask you to supply information from your card (Card Number, CVV, Expiry Date, Name on Card), you will also be asked to supply another piece of information, for validation of your identity. Once your identity is validated, you will be asked to:
1) Create your own “password”.
You will need to remember this password to use when you are shopping at
participating online merchants, to authenticate yourself when you use your
card.
2) Create your own “personal assurance message”.
This is a short message you create, that means something to you. Everytime
you are shopping at a participating merchant, your own personal assurance
message will appear. This is how you know that you are on a legitimate site.
It assures you that you are shopping on a secure online site.
